SHILLONG Oct 10: Meghalaya has been sanctioned an amount of Rs 300 crore by the centre for constructing sporting infrastructures for the 2022 National Games.
Informing media persons, state deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong told that the amount would be coming from the Ministry of Social Justice.
“We are thankful to the Ministry for sanctioning the required funds for the stadium for the National Games to be hosted by the state in 2022,” Tynsong said.
The deputy chief minister also informed that the state’s Sports department has identified about 50 acres of land in New Shillong Township to construct the stadium meant for games.
Tynsong also informed that the immediate task of the state government was to complete the process of engaging consultants, architects and to appoint a Chief Executive officer (CEO).
He informed that the sports department would all these formalities by November 15.
Tynsong also informed that another 70 acres of land have been identified for the Games Village, even as he told that funds for the same will come from a different source.
“For building the games village, the fund has to be managed by the state government,” Tynsong said.
The deputy chief minister also said that the state government is determined to complete all required infrastructure within 2022.
