Shillong, May 5: Meghalaya is still not free from COVID-19 as the last patient has tested positive in the third retest, informed Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
He appealead to the people of the state especially the patient not to panic. “There were similar cases in other states of India where the patients has to be tested for 6 times to get the negative result,” he said.
It may be noted that in the case of popular singer Kanika Kapoor, she was declared recovered after her 5th and 6th retest came out negative.
The singer was diagnosed for Coronavirus on March 20 and was discharged from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow on April 6.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the fourth test will be conducted after three days as per norms of the WHO and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India and Department of Health and Family Welfare of Meghalaya.
The patient had tested negative in the first retest, however, has tested positive for the two retest subsequently.
The 10 other patients who had contracted the virus, tested negative for two consecutive retests, following which they were declared recovered.
