SHILLONG, Sep 4: The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) has elected Metbah Lyngdoh for the Speaker’s post.
The decision to elect Lyngdoh as the MDA’s candidate for the Speaker’s post was taken at a meeting held on Wednesday evening.
The election to the Speaker’s post will be held during the upcoming session of the Meghalaya Assembly. The Autumn session will start on September 6 and end on September 13.
Three time MLA, of the United Democratic Party(UDP) Lyngdoh represents Mairang constituency and is presently, Tourism Minister in the Conrad Sangma led-MDA government.
Meanwhile, the Congress has decided to put up Winnerson D Sangma as their candidate for the Speaker’s post.
His candidature was decided at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meet which was held today evening.
“He is an acceptable and versatile candidate,” opposition leader Dr Mukul Sangma said after the CLP meeting.
When pointed out that the odds are against them, Dr Sangma added, “We have put up a candidate from our party with an intention to win.”
