Metbah, Winnerson file nomination for Meghalaya Speaker post

SHILLONG, Sept 10: UDP three time legislator, Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the post of Assembly Speaker.

Metbah has been nominated by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for the post of Speaker of the assembly following the demise of former Speaker, late Dr Donkupar Roy on July 28.

Earlier, before filing his papers, Metbah submitted his resignation from the post of Minister to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma.

During filing of his nomination, the MDA candidate was accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues and other partners of the alliance.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress MLA from Salmanpara, Winnerson D Sangma filed his nomination.

Sangma had also contested against former Speaker, Late Dr Donkupar Roy.

Both Metbah and Winnerson submitted their nomination papers before Assembly Commissioner and Secretary, Andrew Simons.

According to Simon, the nomination papers of both the candidates were found valid.

The withdrawal of candidature will be on Wednesday.

Election to the post of Speaker will be held on September 13.
