SHILLONG, Jun 3: State leader of opposition Dr Mukul Sangma on Monday alleged the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government of being involved in manipulation of institutions and government departments.
Addressing media persons on Monday, Dr Sangma said, “If these are being manipulated there is a danger to democracy.”
He said that political executives come and go but what remains are the government institutions even as he said that if they are allowed to be manipulated what will be left behind is a corrupt, incompetent and insensitive institutions.
He also alleged that there are frequent transfer and posting of officers.
The leader of opposition also reiterated that it will expose the government on the issue.
“We will pursue and expose the government and also assure nobody is going to be left and we will not let them go scot free,” Dr Sangma added.
When asked if the Ministers in the Government are involved in this illegal activities, Leader of Opposition said that at least there will be few people who are calling the shots to ensure that illegal mining activities continue.
Commenting on the alleged illegal transportation of coal from the state, Dr Sangma alleged that the present government is the facilitator of the entire business.
He asked what is stopping the MDA government from taking measures to stop illegal mining and legalise it.
The opposition leader also alleged that the government was happy to ensure that no legal mining started in the state since they want to benefit from the illegal mining activities.
“The state government is desperate to continue facilitating illegal mining and illegal transportation at the cost of the interest of the people and interest of the state,” he said.
Dr Sangma also alleged that the government has been successful in tampering with the institution due to patronage.
According to him the moment this patronage gets dislocated because of resistance by the officers then they are immediately replaced.
“You may look at the whole transfer and posting which will an indication. Frequent transfer and postings of officers who matters proves there is an attempt to tamper with the institution of governance,” the opposition leader added.
