Shillong, Apr 14: The Education department on Wednesday held a meeting with the schools and college heads with the Additional Chief Secretary in-charge Education to hear the view of the institutions regarding the COVID-19 situation in relation to the conduct of classes.
Later in the evening briefing newsmen, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui informed that there was a unanimous decision that the Class XI and Class XII should go on in the same manner going on now.
Rymbui also said that for classes 6 to 8 the majority of the heads of institutions felt that the present arrangement is good enough.
“However, there is a divided opinion regarding nursery to Class 5. But they also observed that the present arrangement is good because online option is not feasible even in the urban areas,” the State Education Minister informed.
The Education Minister said that many have expressed their opinion that online classes are not helping their children since their parents are helping them.
The issue of vaccinating the school and college teachers also came up at the meeting.
According to Rymbui, since teachers come into contact everyday with the children, therefore they should be vaccinated.
“The Education department has communicated this to the Health department,” The Education Minister said.
