NPP and BJP are two sides of same coin: Mukul Sangma

Tura, Mar 22: Opposition leader also a Congress nominee for the Tura parliamentary seat, Dr Mukul Sangma has said that the BJP and NPP are two sides of the same coin.

“Only during elections they pretend to be fighting against each other but in reality they are one and NPP is still part of NDA which is headed by BJP and they are the MDA partners in the state,” the Congress nominee said.

The Congress also hit out at Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma for alleging that the former introduced different flagship mission, which were not result oriented and had led to huge financial burden on the state.

Addressing party workers at Tura on Thursday, Dr Sangma said, “He (Conrad) needs to do plenty of homework before he can understand about Agar plantation in private land and it’s positive economic ramifications.”

It may be mentioned that on Wednesday, Conrad while addressing election rallies at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills, said that Dr Sangma introduced several mission during his tenure as Chief Miniuster in the state which led to financial burden and he was least bothered to executive the mission properly, and the programme failed.

The former Chief Minister who is the Congress party’s candidate for the Tura parliamentary seat said that it was during his tenure that a legal provision was initiated for harvesting agar plant for commercial exploitation.

Countering the allegations, Dr Sangma stated that if Conrad knew how to run the state he would not have found the several livelihood mission, he had introduced for sustainability of the citizens as a burden.

“It shows he failed to run the state,” the state opposition leader said. The Congress MP candidate from Tura seat also said that the current Chief Miniser was a a puppet and that were others who pulls the strings.

Dr Sangma also pointed out that during his tenure as Chief Minister of Meghalaya he had initiated several welfare schemes for the citizens of the state.

He pointed out that it was he who had launched the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme, to provide health coverage. He also said that he launched multiple Social Assistance Programmes, including the Special Wedding Assistance Scheme for orphaned girls over the age of 18 and a programme for providing aid to single mothers and orphaned girls.
