SHILLONG, Mar 10: Rumour mills are doing the round that Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma will contest from Amapti seat, the bastion of former Chief Minister and Congress leader Dr Mukul Sangma.
It may be mentioned that Dr Sangma in the recent Meghalaya Assembly polls contested from two seats- Ampati and Songsak, he won both the seats.
Earlier, it was reported that the former Chief Minister would vacate Ampati and project his daughter Miani D Shira to contest from the seat.
However, the report was promptly rejected by his son-in-law, Daryl William Cheran Momin.
Dr Sangma has time till March 17 to quit one of the two seats.
Meanwhile, Conrad while clarifying on the rumour said that the National People’s Party (NPP) is yet to decide from which constituency he will contest.
When contacted on Saturday evening to seek his side of the story Conrad said that the rumours were not true since nothing has been discussed.
“We have not had the time to deliberate on this issue. We will be meeting soon to decide on the constituency which I am going to contest,” the Chief Minister said.
Conrad who is the national president of the NPP is currently MP from Tura Lok Sabha seat. He did not contest the 2018 Assembly polls in the state and has to get elected to the Assembly within six months.
