SHILLONG, Sept 10: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today informed the house that a total number of 223 outsiders were detected after the final draft declaration of NRC in Assam.
Sangma replying to a short discussion on the NRC said that a total number of 114 were detected in Byrnihat, 66 in Dainadubi, 05 in Ratacherra and 03 in Khliehriat.
He also informed that those who were detected were push back to the places of origin since they could not produce original valid documents.
The Chief Minister said that the government has taken appropriate legislative measures and steps are being taken to ensure that Assam’s NRC discards don’t infiltrate into the state.
“As part of the exercise to check influx of NRC discards, check points have been asked to be extra vigilant. An Inspector General has been deputed as a nodal officer to oversee the entire process of people getting into the State on a daily basis,” he informed.
The Chief Minister also informed the house that an official is coordinating with Superintendents of Police and collecting data on a daily basis of the people entering through the check-gates. He is also responsible for liaisoning with officials from Assam.
