SHILONG, Aug 29: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has suggested that women should actively participate in electoral politics.
The PDF made this suggestion before the Election Commission of India (ECI) during a meeting of all recognised national and state political parties held in New Delhi earlier this week.
The PDF was led by its president Ivanlumlang Marbaniang and finance secretary Aibor L Nonglait at the meet.
Marbaniang said, “As a party we pointed out the need to encourage women to take aprt in electoral politics.”
According to Marbaniang, the PDF also was of the view that there should be a ceiling for election expenditure by political parties during elections.
“However, the ceiling should be rationalised. In Meghalaya there are some areas where habitations are far away from the roads and political parties have to use their time and energy at times even having to sleep in such villages,” Marbaniang said.
The PDF also pointed out to the need to suspend internet services 48 hours before the voting date.
The party also pointed out that people with disabilities should take part in election processes especially those ho cannot walk.
“We urge the ECI to allow such persons to use e-postal ballot, Marbaniang said.
