Police files first charge sheet in Church funds misappropriation case

Shillong, Apr 9: The East Khasi Hills police has chargesheeted a person for his alleged involvement in misappropriating Church funds.

According to East Khasi Hills, Superintendent of Police, S. Nongtnger, on August 3, 2019 police received a written FIR filed by the Mawkhar Presbyterian Church that a fraud was detected by the committee of the Church.

The Church believed that the fraud has been going on since the year 2013 on suspicion to have been committed by the treasurer of the Church who has been entrusted for the post since 2009 till date and aided by Allfas Bareh a watchman of the Church who resides in Mission Compound, Shillong.

The Mawkhar Presbyterian Church alleged that the fraud involves in depositing the offerings collected every Sunday from the members of the church in the State Bank of India, Iewduh Branch.

Police said that during the course of investigation the accused Allfas Bareh, was arrested for his involvement in the misappropriation of the Church money and in this regard the first charge sheet has been filed.

“The investigation will however continue to ascertain whether there is complicity of others in the crime,” Nongtnger said.
