SHILLONG, Aug 6: Meghalaya recorded 51 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday which includes a traffic police personnel and a tea vendor in Police Bazar.
The fresh cases also includes ward boys at NEIGRIHMS and Civil Hospital Shillong and a Pharmacist at Civil Hospital Shillong.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that the police personnel was a contact of a police personnel from Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills and the tea vendor from Police Bazar had influenza like illness.
“This particular person had gone to Woodland Hospital for treatment now this patient has been shifted to Nazareth Hospital and her samples sent to NEIGRIHMS for testing,” Dr. Warr informed.
The Director of Health Services informed that of the 51 new cases, 17 are from East Khasi Hills, 14 from West Garo Hills all BSF personnel, West Jaintia Hills one and Ri-Bhoi 19.
The State now has 640 active cases, with East Khasi Hills recording 498 of these (BSF 194, civilians 243 and armed forces 61), Ri-Bhoi 70, West Garo Hills 29, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills 17 each, West Khasi Hills five, South West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills two each.
Meghalaya recorded six new recovered cases out of which five are civilians and one BSF personnel.
The total recovered cases as of Thursday are 345.
Dr. Warr also informed that the number of samples sent for testing till Thursday afternoon are 39782 and a total of 38412 cases tested negative and the report of 380 samples are awaited. The number of persons who entered the State till Thursday afternoon are 25767.
