MEPA to boycott North East Olympic Games 2022

Shillong, Nov. 8: The Meghalaya Editors' and Publishers' Association (MEPA) has taken strong exception to the partiality and bias adopted by the organisers of the North East Olympic Games (NEOG) 2022 as far as the release of advertisements are concerned.

“It has been noticed that only certain newspapers including those from outside the State are preferred for insertion of advertisements related to the NEOG 2022. This goes against the established policy of giving first preference to the local newspapers, news portals and news channels,” statement issued by MEPA General Secretary, John W Thabah said.

The MEPA as a body that looks after the welfare and development of local media houses in the State has decided to register its strong protest against this blatant discrimination, Thabah said.

Therefore, MEPA appeals to all local media houses including print, electronic and online news portals not to carry any news, press releases, photographs, etc related to North East Games 2022 from today 8th November, 2022 onwards.

We request all local media houses to show their solidarity in this matter in the best interest of the local press fraternity, the statement added.
