Pressure groups to intensify movement for ILP

Shillong, Feb 10: Pressure groups of the State like the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Achik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO) and the Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) on Wednesday has decided to intensify their protests to demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

In a meeting held at Tura, the pressure groups also wants that the government should immediately start the construction of the Entry & Exit Points, to resolve the inter-state boundary issues with Assam and inclusion of Khasi and Garo Languages in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution of India.

At the meeting the leaders of the various pressure groups pointed out that the demand for ILP in the state should be a people’s movement and not just demand by a few organisations.

The meeting decided that to drum up support amongst the indigenous group for demanding implementation of ILP in Meghalaya, the pressure groups would organise meetings all over the state to make people aware of the permit system.
