‘Provide security for buses ferrying stranded persons’

Shillong, May 18: Delhi Police North East Representative and Convener of National Volunteers of the state of Meghalaya against COVID-19, Daniel Stone Lyngdoh suggested some measures to the state government regarding security for buses that will be transporting stranded Meghalaya residents from the national capital as well as other states.

Lyngdoh stated that it would be unwise on the part of the state government if they were unable to make the efforts suggested by him as the buses would pass through many nights along the way.

“During the past few days there have been buses that met with accidents on the way before reaching the state. In the coming days if the government doesn’t take care not only accidents but also other much more dangerous incidents the travellers may encounter,” he stated.

He stated that the buses will be travelling late nights through different states which have high crime records and if security wasn’t provided, they might become a target for miscreants.

In order to ensure the security of all the passengers, he suggested that there should be mandatory security provisions.

“Inform the incharge like the Khasi Students Union, the Garo Students Union and the especially, the National Volunteers for State of Meghalaya against World COVID-19 who knows all our people from our state residing in different states of India and the students union will help you know who else are going and who will sit in the bus throughout the journey,” he stated.

Lyngdoh also said that the travellers should keep the persons incharge updated on their journey.

“If security cannot be provided by the state government, it is Breyer to not send buses to ferry your people from outside states to avoid hearing of unpleasant news that could result,” he stressed.

He also urged Meghalaya House officials to relax their rules and regulations during COVID-19 pandemic so that those in need can find shelter.
