Pumps of Kirloskar Brothers in operation to pump water from mine

SHILLONG, Jan 5: The high pressure pumps of Kirloskar Brothers Limited were on Saturday used to pump the water from the flooded shaft where 15 miners are trapped since December 13.

Spokesperson of the rescue operation, R Susngi said, “Kirloskar finally and successfully today at 3.30pm able to start both their pumps and pump the water from the main shaft.”

Susngi also said that the Odisha Fire Service reported that the water level from the old shaft receded by 1.5 ft and had pump 10 lakh liters of water in ten hours.

“The report also doubts that the water level may rise again due to seepage,” the Spokesperson said.

It may be mentioned that when the pumps of the Odisha Fire Service were first used on January 1, to pump water from a nearby old shaft located about 500 meters from the main shaft, after three hours of pumping the water level in the nearby old shaft receded up to six inches.
