SHILLONG, Aug 2: The Rangbah Shnong of Mawthabah village in West Khasi Hills district H Lyngdoh Sangriang, on Thursday admitted he made a mistake in giving No objection Certificate (NoC) to the Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) to carry out exploration works for uranium.
Sangriang admitted his mistake in front of KHADC, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Hispreaching Son Shylla, MDCs, Executive Members, and pressure group during their spot inspection of the exploration sites.
“The AMD claimed that it came through the government of India andI did not know that it by-passed the KHADC and the state government. We the Executive Committee of the Dorbar Shnong decided on it (NOC) collectively and I did not do it on my own,” Sangriang said.
On his part Shylla that the issue of uranium mining is over and wanted peace to prevail in the area.
The CEM also informed that uranium mining in Mawthabah has stopped and the public need not worry.
“We will not summon the Rangbah Shnong anymore since the issue has been clarified,” Shylla said.
