Shillong, June 18: East Khasi Hills Additional District Medical and Health Officer Dr Adreena Lyngdoh, informed that as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of electors, polling officials and staff during the Rajya Sabha polls, a holding room has been prepared.
Dr Lyngdoh added that a team of six nurses have been assigned to assist any person who displays any symptom. “From the health department, we have been assigned to see that health protocols are being followed,” she stated.
“We have a team of six nurses, two will be placed in the main entrance where all officials and electors will be scanned. Anyone found symptomatic will be segregated accordingly. We will scan them again before they enter the room for polling exercise,” she added.
If any elector registers a higher-than-normal temperature, they will be segregated and kept in a holding room. The elector will be allowed to place their vote only after all the other electors finish voting.
“We may also perform a Rapid Diagnostic Kit Test and action will be taken accordingly,” she added.
Dr Lyngdoh also said that they will ensure everyone wears a mask in the correct manner. “You can’t wear a mask where the nose is set free, or not covered properly. Sanitisers have also been placed at strategic locations for visitors and electors,” she said.
