Tura, Mar 22: Former minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate, Sayeedullah Nongrum and NPP candidate, Ferlin CA Sangma filed their nomination papers on Friday for the April 11 bypoll to the Selsella constituency at Tura in front of the Returning Officer (RO).
The last day of filing nomination for Selsella assembly by-election is March 25.
The Selsella Assembly seat fell vacant following death of Congress MLA Clement Marak in October last year.
His wife, June Eliana R Marak is also expected to file her nominations along with the INC MP candidate, Mukul Sangma, this coming Monday, the last day of doing so, Mar 25.
Clement passed away on Oct 9 last year at a private hospital in New Delhi after suffering after a prolonged fight with cancer.
The seat looks set to be a 3 way contest as the BJP is yet to finalize a candidate for the seat with no independent candidates coming forward to join the fight as yet. The story could however change in the coming week.
The seat is expected to be hotly contested given that the 2018 MLA elections saw Clement win by a whisker against the NPP candidate, FCA Sangma.
