Tura, Apr 20: The return of over Rs 90 lakhs meant under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Program (CMYDP) under the heads of CM’s Career Guidance and Counselling Programme and CM’s Youth For Green, has not gone down well with people of South Garo Hills with an NGO question the alacrity of the administration in working for the development of the youth of the district.
Nathan S Marak, the president of the A’kim Saldora Society in Baghmara has hit out at the administration questioning the will of the officers in question.
An amount of Rs 90,92000 was returned by the DC to the ministry of sports and youth affair on Nov 20, 2017 by the DC. The amount was the total amount provided to the district from 2012 to 2017 and was meant for development of youth.
“Whenever we approached the deputy commissioner of SGH with programs related to youth development she would only provide us Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. We always had to curtail our programs since the money was not enough. To think that this money could have been used to help in the development of youth in SGH and was returned, makes us fume,” said Marak.
The president called for the removal of the current DC, SN Marak, over her failure to use the funds appropriately.
“This shows the inefficiency of the district administration. If they had begun work with various societies and NGOs when the money came in, the matter would have been different. As a local, this waste of money meant for our welfare and its return for non utilization, hurts,” added Marak.
