Shillong, Mar 7: BJP legislator from South Shillong, Sanbor Shullai on March 5, met Professor J.S. Rajput India’s representative to the Executive Board in UNESCO at his residence in Greater Noida.
Shullai met Professor Rajput to seek his support to accord intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO to Kongthong village.
The MLA has also requested Professor Rajput to visit Kongthong village soon so that the village can get global attention.
India’s representative to the Executive Board in UNESCO has assured to take the matter to UNESCO through the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
In this regard Shullai also met MP from Rajya Sabha, Rakesh Sinha at his residence in New Delhi and thanked him for adopting Kongthong village.
The MP from Rajya Sabha has assured all possible help to Kongthong village and has ensured that there will be a sustainable livelihood programme for self employment however not affecting the cultural heritage.
The MP also said that the rest of the country should learn from the Northeast regarding secularism and giving equal opportunity to the females.
Shullai said that he has invited Both Sinha and Professor Rajput to Kongthong for global recognition.
