SHILLONG, Nov: The Meghalaya Assembly, has convened a special session on November 27, this was informed on Tuesday evening by Commissioner and Secretary, Meghalaya Legislativce Assembly, Andrew Simons.
It may be mentioned that the State government has proposed the special session of the House to pass the corrected resolution for inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution.
On September 27, the Assembly had passed the resolution to include Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution but the resolution was not sent to the Centre after some flaws were detected.
The resolution was flawed as it mentioned that Khasi and Garo are not medium of instruction up to higher secondary or higher education and there is no Sahitya Sabha or Academy for the two languages in the State.
The resolution tabled by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was passed by the Assembly unanimously.
Moreover, the government wants that the Special Session should discuss the formation of an Assembly Committee on climate and environment.
