TURA, Mar 9: The All Garo Hills 4th Teachers’ Association met leader of opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma on Monday at his constituency in Songsak over their demand for equal salary with other SSA teachers and also to seek his help in regularizing their services.
The teachers’ association submitted a memo which states that they were being forced to draw Rs 12,000 salary per month while their fellow colleagues earn Rs 20,493 per month. They alleged that this was done despite similar qualifications and experiences in the role.
The memo read, “According to Art 14, 15, 16 of the Indian Constitution, it is clearly mentioned equality before the law as well as equal protection of law. Any sort of discrimination on artificial grounds is prohibited under Art 15 while Art 16 speaks of equal opportunity.”
“It is also affecting our right to life as we have to survive on such meagre amounts,” the teachers said.
The association said that currently there are 1513 SSA 4th teachers working in the state in various schools but added that they were still unclear about where their post falls.
“Some of these teachers have served prolonged periods in these schools and had the requisite qualification at the time of their appointment. It is our request that you consider our plea for regularization of our services on a human aspect,” they teachers pleaded.
