Tynsong says COVID-19 situation in Meghalaya improving

Shillong, Jan 29: The state government on Friday said that Meghalaya has improved a lot as far as the new COVID-19 infections are concerned.

“Positive cases have reduced a lot and I am sure within a few days again we will become COVID-19 free,” Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said after a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the government has asked the state Chief Secretary, M. S. Rao to work out further relaxation of the notifications issued from time to time.

Tynsong said that the government by next week it will again sit down and accordingly take a call which are the areas where relaxation is required.

Tynsong also informed that in December around 50, 000 and January 35, 000 persons were tested for COVID-19.

He also informed that till date 60 percent of the health workers have been vaccinated and the whole process of the first phase will be completed within two-three weeks’ time.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that so far there has been no reaction from the vaccination on any of the health workers.

Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that on Friday, the state recorded four new COVID-19 cases and 11 recovered from the virus.

With this the number of active cases has come down to 83 and the total recovered cases stand at 13524.

East Khasi Hills is still the most affected district with 72 active cases.
