UDP will send formal letter on ‘common candidate’

SHILLONG, Oct 23: The United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Bindo Matthew Lanong has stated that if necessary the party will soon sent a formal letter to the National People’s Party (NPP) on the issue of a common candidate for the 2019 Lok Sabha poll.

Recently, deputy chief minister and NPP leader, Prestone Tynsong said that the offer for a “common candidate” by the UDP was seen only in the media.

“This issue we have discussed in the party and we will also discuss the matter with our friends in the NPP but it is yet to be done in writing but we have expressed it as partners in the coalition,” Lanong said.

The UDP working president who is also the chairman of the Coordination Committee of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), added, “But if required we will send a formal letter to the NPP proposing a common candidate (for the MDA partners).”
