Shillong, June 16: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong along with Health Minister A. L Hek, Urban Minister Hamletson Dohling, Hima Mylliem Ainam Syiem, MLA from Shillong West Mohendro Rapsang, Titos W Chyne, CEM KHADC and other senior officials conducted a spot inspection of Iewduh to check it’s preparedness to reopen.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Tynsong said that although the government hasn’t made a decision, they are hoping to reopen the market as soon as possible.
“There is no question of a decision, as I said we will go back to the Secretariat and take a call unanimously. Ultimately we need to understand one thing, that not only for the sake of opening up, for livelihood, but at the same time health of the people, health is important, we need to work out the details,” he said.
He informed that the government needs to prepare a standard of procedure, determine how to maintain social distancing in the market, and ensure the street is not cramped with hawkers and more.
Ainam Syiem, Hima Mylliem said that the Hima invited the Deputy Chief Minister for a spot inspection and added that they were happy with the outcome. “According to Deputy CM, Iewduh will be reopened at the earliest,” he said.
“These past three months, the livelihood of people has been affected. Even if we get permission from the district authorities, we will try our best,” Syiem added.
Meanwhile, MLA from Shillong West Mohendro Rapsang said that he was ‘very positive’ the market will be reopened soon.
