SHILLONG, Jul 18: The 108 emergency service has successfully assisted the birth of a baby while it was transporting a pregnant lady to the hospital.
The 108 emergency service on the evening of July 17 received a call of a full term pregnancy case which was referred by Bhoirymbong PHC with complaints that the patient is unable to push for delivery.
The Bhoirymbong based 108 ambulance attended to the case and was transferring the 32 year old patient to Shillong when she went into full labour for which the ambulance had to be stopped so that the EMT ( emergency medical technician) can conduct the delivery.
The EMT Dolly Tohtih conducted a safe delivery in the ambulance and a healthy baby girl was delivered at around 8:30 pm. Both mother and baby are healthy and doing fine.
Both the mother Silda Matlang and the baby was shifted back and admitted to Bhoirymbong CHC.
Meanwhile, in an accident case reported from 4th mile Upper Shillong on July 17, one Banriskhem Mawlieh (29) who was travelling in the an Alto tourist taxi met with an accident when the vehicle he was in was travelling on the wrong side of the road.
The vehicle collided with a truck. The victim was shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital.
