Shillong, Sep 13: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the delay in appointing a new body of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) and the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) was due to Covid-19.
“In the last one year, obviously, because of the Covid situation that process could not take place in the way or the timing that we would have wanted. So therefore there was delay in the entire process because we have to follow the process,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Sangma said that the process right now has reached the Social Welfare Minister’s table.
It may be mentioned that the MSCW has been without a chairperson since October last year.
Earlier there were reports that the Search and Select Committee (SSC) has recommended around 10 names to the government for appointment to the posts of chairperson and members.
The Chief Minister also informed that the same situation was with the CIC.
Former CIC, Barkos Warjri’s tenure came to an end in March 2021.
